AP239/PLCS as Applied to GEIA-STD-0007, the standard for exchange of military logistics product data

James Colson

Chief, Logistics Engineering Division
US Army LOGSA

LOGSA is the U.S. Army's Authoritative source for logistics data and provides logistics intelligence, life cycle support, and technical advice and assistance to the force. This includes integrated logistics information (force structure, readiness, and other logistics data) for worldwide equipment readiness, distribution analysis, and asset visibility for timely and proactive decision making. This presentation will overview the application of AP239 (The STEP standard for PLM data) toward accomplishing the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association (GEIA) GEIA-STD-0007 standard for Logistics Product Data. The objectives of GEIA-STD-0007 are to fill the void for delivery/exchange of logistics information (e.g. provisioning, cataloging, packaging, task analysis, etc.) and to provide Government/Industry a “contractible” data delivery standard for structured logistics product data. LOGSA, as a member of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), is committed to translating the GEIA-STD-0007 into one or more AP239, Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) Data Exchange Sets (DEXs). The Task Analysis and Provisioning/Cataloging Requirements areas are the first DoD Logistics Support Analysis Record (LSAR) business DEXs scheduled to be created. This work is complimentary with the OASIS PLCS DEX development efforts. The PLCS DEX efforts will continue beyond the original scope of the GEIA-STD-0007 standard to include domains such as Configuration Management, PDM Schema and other Product data related areas.
